Receiving a rare and precious Pangolin and releasing back to nature

On November 11th, Mr Võ Minh Lương, Deputy Head of the Patrol and Control Team (the Management Board of Cù Lao Chàm Marine Protected Area (MPA)) said that the MPA had in coordination with local authorities to release a pangolin back to the forest immediately after receiving from Mr. Trần Đây, a local resident in Bãi Hương hamlet.

According to Mr. Lương, on the evening of November 10th, Mr. Trần Đây (residing in Bãi Hương hamlet, Tân Hiệp commune, Hội An city, Quảng Nam province) discovered a pangolin entangled in a fence in his garden. After assisting the pangolin, Mr. Đây’s family reported the incident and handed over it which weighed over 1kg and 50cm length, to the MPA.

Upon receiving it, the authorities processed the necessary procedures and released the pangolin back to natural habitat.

It is known that in March of this year, a rare and precious pangolin, weighing 1.7kg was found in a local resident’s garden on Cù Lao Chàm.
Specifically, around 1:30 PM on March 27th, Ms. Trần Thị Hiền (residing in Bãi Làng hamlet, Tân Hiệp commune) discovered the pangolin in her garden. Recognizing it as a rare and endangered species, Ms. Hiền decided to hand over the pangolin to the authorities for release back into its natural habitat.

According to the Management Board of Cù Lao Chàm Marine Protected Area, this pangolin is a species classified as a rare and precious forest and wild animal, belonging to Group IB (Decree 06/2019/NĐ-CP of the Government), prioritized for protection and strictly prohibited from exploitation, use, trade, and consumption in any form.
